Tucked away in the island’s eastern countryside, just 20 minutes from Willemstad, the Curaçao Ostrich Farm offers a surprising change of pace from sun and surf. www.curacaoostrichfarm.com Established in the late 1990s, the farm began as an agricultural project and has grown into one of the largest ostrich farms outside of Africa. Here, the largest living bird in the world roams the Curaçao landscape and you get to meet them up close.
Your visit starts aboard an open-air safari truck, where a knowledgeable guide drives you through the farm’s wide, sandy paddocks. Along the way, you’ll hear fascinating stories about ostrich biology, breeding and behavior, sprinkled with plenty of humor. You’ll meet ostriches of all ages, from fluffy chicks to towering adults that can stretch their necks higher than you can reach. The highlight for many? Feeding an ostrich by hand; a quick, comical encounter you’ll definitely want to catch on camera.

The farm is also home to emus, potbellied pigs and other animals, making it an engaging stop for families. After the tour, relax at the Zambezi Restaurant, where the African-inspired menu includes ostrich meat dishes for the adventurous, along with familiar options for everyone else. The gift shop has great souvenirs like hand-painted ostrich eggs and ostrich leather goods, items you won’t find anywhere else on the island.
