Agave – Bold Mexican Flavors, Beachfront Style

Opened in February 2025, Agave Bar Y Taqueria is one of Jan Thiel Beach’s freshest additions and in short order, it’s made a tasty impression! Agave is a modern, tapas-style Mexican restaurant delivering much more than tacos and tequila, That said, the tacos are delicious and the tequila selection robust.

A warmly lit beachfront bar and dining area at night, framed by swaying palm trees and festive string lights. Wooden stools line the illuminated bar counter beneath a thatched roof, while low tables and chairs are arranged on the sandy terrace, creating an inviting seaside atmosphere.

Agave offers a vibrant dining experience that’s equal parts flavorful, social and stylish. Set just off the sand on Jan Thiel Beach, Agave’s design balances beachy cool with Mexican warmth. The warmth of the lighting, intention in the tilework, open-air flow to keep things breezy long after sunset and beach views that never disappoint, create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Whether you’re popping in barefoot from the beach or arriving dressed for a night out, the mood meets you in the middle - casual but curated.

The warmly lit exterior of Agave Bar y Taqueria at dusk, featuring an orange façade dotted with cactus-shaped wall sconces, an illuminated “AGAVE” sign on the roof, and a glowing “BAR” neon sign by the entrance.
A three-tiered serving stand holding Mexican tapas—top tier with a small bowl of salsa, middle with fried fish tacos and lime wedges, bottom with thinly sliced carnitas garnished with cilantro—set against a softly lit restaurant background.

The menu leans into authenticity.  Hand-made tortillas the pinnacle. The food, presented with flair on a three tiered cake stand, perhaps a playful nod to layered flavors and abundance. It’s a visual centerpiece as much as a culinary one. The birria, carne asada and fried fish tacos were bold, satisfying bites, while the chicken enchilada and quesadilla held their own with rich, comforting flavors.

Cocktails aren’t an afterthought here. The Paloma and Pisco Sour struck a perfect balance of freshness and kick, while the margarita needs no introduction - true to form.

Attentive and friendly, the service matches the lively yet laid-back vibe at Agave.  Staff strike the right balance; their casual approach matching the atmosphere and their tequila expertise,  an asset when you’re unsure of which you should select to sip.

As a newer player on the Jan Thiel Beach dining strip, Agave is carving out a strong reputation, standing shoulder to shoulder with the older, more established favorites nearby.
