Eetcafé De Buurvrouw in Curaçao at night, featuring an open-air dining area surrounded by palm trees and warm ambient lighting.

Set on the Martha Koosje estate along Weg naar Westpunt near Grote Berg, Eetcafé De Buurvrouw has been winning over locals and travelers for years, continuing a tradition of food and hospitality that’s been associated with Martha Koosje for decades. With its unfussy charm and solid cooking, De Buurvrouw has earned a reputation as one of the places on the island everyone seems to know. Its open-air dining space keeps it breezy. Its casual charm is comforting. It’s the kind of place where you settle in with a drink and watch the night unfold. Good food and a friendly vibe that works for any night of the week. It’s a convenient stop whether you’re staying nearby or just want to escape the busier areas.

Busy interior of Eetcafé De Buurvrouw with a thatched roof, communal tables, and a relaxed local dining atmosphere.

The menu leans hearty and satisfying. Approachable favourites and crowd-pleasers mix with daily specials. Their ribs are a Curaçao classic, tender, saucy and best eaten with napkins at the ready. A cold accompanying beer is a must! The steaks are just as popular, cooked to order and to perfection, arriving with crispy fries. The pepper steak coated in pepper grains was indeed coated, delivering that peppery spice and

the red-wine truffle sauce that accompanied the steak De Buurvrouw packed that fantastic truffle punch. Fresh fish is usually on the board and vegetarian dishes hold their own rather than feeling like an afterthought. The stoba is always a must. Beyond the steaks and fresh fish, De Buurvrouw’s menu offers a full pizzeria with numerous

Dutch creations. Combinations like tuna & onion, carpaccio with pine nuts and goat cheese with honey are beloved in the Netherlands but may surprise North American

guests.  Be adventurous!

The drinks list keeps things easy with cold beers, crisp wines and a selection of cocktails to round out the evening. Their rum selection is impressive with over a dozen to choose from. Service is incredibly friendly in that easy, island way; quick when you need it, never rushed when you don’t. Ask for Zeke, he’ll take care of you!

De Buurvrouw isn’t a trend and it’s not about fine dining. It’s about good food, good portions and a casual vibe that feels unrushed, making it easy to stay for one more round. If you’re hungry and looking for something off the beaten path, this is a stop worth making.
